Supporting you to be you.

Companionship Service

Is a feeling of fellowship, sharing quality time with another person and providing comfort, a listening ear and a kind word, companionship can be beneficial for people who feel isolated and can impact on coping abilities and emotional or mental wellbeing.  There is evidence to show that companionship can improve loneliness and quality of life as well as improving health. Seeing a friendly face, who has time is important.

This could mean spending time at home participating in things you enjoy or wish to do and require a little additional support to fulfil your goal.  Writing or reading correspondence, baking, flower arranging, reading aloud, chatting and talking.

As a registered nurse, I could assist and support you with journeys to hospital appointments and discuss with you the information received, and encourage through discussion and with your consent that the right questions are asked with the healthcare professional.

It could mean a trip to the shops, choosing a special present for someone, or picking out something for yourself, attending a social gathering you wish to attend, going to church, or an organised event, out for lunch, visiting a garden centre and having tea and cake, spending time in nature.

If mobility is a concern, I will support you to remain as independent and safe as possible.

We would drive to the venue in my car (which is insured for this purpose).

Once there, I will assist and support to promote dignity and independence to ensure you feel comfortable and confident. I will remain with you by your side, offering individual one to one care delivered with kindness and empathy.

At a time, convenient to you, and agreed by us, I will take you home, leave you settled.

Assisting and supporting you while you do what you wish to do for you to keep being YOU.

Palliative and end of life care and companionship

To offer empathic and tactful respite and companionship or personal assistant care. I can offer holistic emotioanl support that may help when having challenging and difficult conversations.

Giving time and space to offer peace and comfort.

Sometimes a person needs space and time to reflect and ensure all that makes them them is in order. Signposting onward to other relevant services and including the rest of the multi disciplinary team who offer care, treatment and support to those with a life limiting or terminal condition or are nearing the end of their life is key to promoting and maintaining a person’s sense of self and independence to do things the way they wish.

Working around other care that is in place can offer peace of mind and support those who wish to remain at home even if they live alone. Sometimes overnight respite and care is what is needed to give family much needed rest or time away to recharge batteries.

I can offer support with activities of daily living and highlight when intervention from the wider community team is required.

I can offer support and compassion in the time after someone has died, contacting undertakers if this is required, providing support to both the deceased and those loved and special to them.

Reviews

  • “I recently hired a personal care assistant for my dad initially, who has dementia, to provide support, but now, alongside my mum, they have both received support, emotionally and physically, which has made an incredible difference in their daily lives. From the start, Carolyn from Serendipity Care, was compassionate and patient, which is crucial for someone with dementia. She approached my dad with kindness, taking the time to engage him in conversation and activities he enjoys, which not only brightened his mood but also helped him feel comfortable and respected. Carolyn was not only skilled in managing the specific needs of someone with dementia but also provided invaluable companionship to my dad alongside my mum in their uncertain world.Carolyn quickly observed and discovered their likes and dislikes, which made a world of difference. What truly impressed me was her ability to communicate well with ourselves (myself and my brother) and went above and beyond what we were expecting within her remit. Understanding that caring for someone with dementia can be physically and emotionally taxing. This collaborative approach has been reassuring for both my parents and the whole of the family involved. It is truly heartwarming to see and know that Carolyn always has her clients at the forefront of her business thoughts and has a very personal approach: you are definitely never just a number, which makes the whole experience at this moment in time less daunting for all. Carolyn is a true diamond find in the care sector, and anyone crossing her path in life is lucky to have known her. Overall, having a personal care assistant has provided much-needed relief for my mum, knowing there’s someone trustworthy and caring looking after my dad, or taking them both out just for a cuppa and social engagement. The positive impact on both of their lives is undeniable. I highly recommend seeking Carolyn’s service, whether on a one-to-one basis for events, attending an appointment or for anyone in a similar situation to us.”

  • “I would without hesitation recommend Carolyn and Serendipity Care to anybody who is seeking a dedicated, one to one established carer for a family member of friend. Carolyn has a wealth of experience in caring and supporting those who have cognitive issues or other age-related conditions. Her professionalism, passion and personality were all clear to see from the initial meeting and have been invaluable since that day. Having lost my father at the end of last year there was a clear need for additional support for my mother who has impaired judgement and various other age-related conditions. I live 500 miles away from my mother and whilst travelling down once a month to check in on her I needed to secure a ‘care package’ where there was a dedicated carer in place who would be build a rapport with my mother and gain her trust. Having engaged various established corporate care providers none of them were able to provide this level of service which was essential for my mother and her needs. My mother instantly bonded with Carolyn, and she is always talking about Carolyn and how ‘wonderful’ she is – that in itself speaks volumes of service provided and gives me the confidence that all is well. Additional to this Carolyn provides updates after her visit to ensure that I am fully aware of any areas which may need addressing. In summary, thanks to Carolyn, I can sleep at night having full confidence that my mother has her independence and that her needs are being met by someone who cares."
